Went the Abbot Kinney first Fridays for the first time this past Friday (located in Venice, Ca) and was blown away by all the good food that was available. The street was packed with good food trucks from 430pm – 11pm. One truck in particular stood out for this Chicago native, that was obviously Dogtown Dogs. If you’ve ever been to Chicago, or are from Chicago, you know that nothing can beat a Chicago dog right? Vienna all beef dog, mustard, onions, relish, pickles, tomatoes, peppers on sesame seed bun. Don’t even talk about ketchup, don’t even say it.
Ok That being said, I tried the California Dog which was an all beef hotdog covered in arugula, avocado, basil aioli, tomatoes, crispy onions and lite vinaigrette. As you can see from the picture, I couldn’t even see the dog! I must say the taste wasn’t like any other dog I’ve had. I almost felt like I just ate a really good salad. I mean that in the best way possible.
The next thing we decided to dive into was the Trailer Trash. I couldn’t resist it sounded like something I would make for myself as a kid. Topped with beef chili, nacho cheese and Fritos this hot dog tasted like pure childhood. I felt like it was after school in 1992 and I wanted to go ride my bike to a friends house to play basketball. Nostalgia on a bun, it was great.
Unfortunately thats all my stomach had room for, but rest assure I will be back to try the 4 dogs on the menu, as you should as well! I give the Dogtown Food Truck 4.5 stars, from a Chicago boy thats high praise. Heres their menu, or in my case a list of things I will eventually try. Morning Commute I’m looking at you…
